1. Venetian Ghetto

Venetian Ghetto, also known as Jewish Ghetto, is a neighbourhood that is situated on the north-western side of Venice. It was established in the year 1516 and is known to be the first-ever ghetto to have existed in the world. During the mid-1500s, the Jews of the country were forced to leave the main city and find shelter in this region. Even in the ghetto, the Jews were allowed to come out only during the day and were locked inside their houses with guards guarding the entire place till the next morning. Due to its historical significance, the place attracts a lot of tourists every year and it is known to be one of the top places to see in Venice.

Despite the troubling history that this place holds, it still has wonderfully built restaurants, museums and shops to welcome the tourists. Although a lot of tourists overlook the ghetto, we would definitely recommend it as it is a wonderful place to explore.

2. Grand Canal

Grand Canal, or Canale Grande as the Italians denote, is another serene and beautiful place that you should not forget to include in your itinerary. While buying a Venice tour package, do check if any of them gives you a chance to stay near this canal as mornings near this canal are peaceful and pleasant. This canal offers a lot of beautiful sites while you row from one end to the other. There are beautiful castles and palaces on both sides of the canal and a lot of beautiful bridges throughout your journey. Also, do not forget to enjoy the sunset here; the canal water sparkles when it happens.

St. Mark’s Basilica is located on Piazza San Marco and is the third church that’s built at the same spot. Before this, two churches were built here but the best amongst them is Basilica. The church is spread over a large area which includes the stunning Byzantine, statues, domes, mosaics and walls made of marble. It is believed that the High Altar still hides the remains of St. Mark but the tourists are not allowed to visit here. The church is undoubtedly one of the best places to see in Venice.
