9 mins. read

Singapore, a truly a global city, is located in Southeast Asia. The city is a melting pot of different architectural styles, cuisines, and cultures. Singapore tour packages are extremely popular among travellers and tourists, and with good reason. The city offers everything from shopping avenues and outlying neighborhoods to amazing amusement and wildlife parks. In fact, there are so many things to do in Singapore that visiting this welcoming city once might not be enough.

However, to help you out with choosing the right tour package or with planning your itinerary for when you visit the city, here is a list of the top 10 things to do in Singapore that you can include in your plans:

1. Take a Night Safari

There is no doubt that this is one of the best things to do in Singapore at night. You get the chance to get up close and personal with wild animals during the night. You will need to take a trip to the northern reaches of the city to experience this wildlife park, which is right next to Singapore Zoo. The park opens only in the evenings, from around 7.30 pm to midnight. A safari at this park will take you wandering over footpaths and bridges in a fragrant jungle under the night sky, where you may be able to gaze at up to 120 species of nocturnal creatures like tigers, alligators, and fishing cats. There are electric trams that run along the path, offering regular breaks to visitors to check out the animals. Here, you can even take a walk through the fruit bat enclosure.

2. Plan a day out to Singapore Zoo

If you are travelling with kids, this just may be one of the best things to do in Singapore. Singapore Zoo is counted among the best zoos in the world, and is spread across 28 hectares of land in a peninsula in the Upper Seletar Reservoir. The range of wildlife that you can see at this zoo, roaming freely in large and natural habitat-like enclosures, spans the entire globe. The zoo is also categorised into different areas. For example, the Great Rift Valley, which also has a waterfall cascading off a cliff, is home to mongooses, baboons, and Nubian ibexes. On the other hand, at the Fragile Forest bio-dome, you are allowed to climb up to the canopy of the forest, where you can spot some flying foxes and lemurs. There is also an area for kids, the Rainforest Kidzworld, where children can get pony rides or play at the waterslides.

3. Stroll through the Gardens by the Bay

Another of the top things to do in Singapore, you should definitely plan a visit to the Gardens by the Bay. These are futuristic botanical gardens in Singapore that are home to Super-trees and bio-domes. The bio-domes house more than 800 species of plants from all over the world, that too in their different climate zones; how about that! Some of the domes that you can check out here are the Desert Dome, Cloud Forest Dome, Flower Dome, etc. Make sure you experience the Garden Rhapsody light shows when you visit – they are spectacular!

4. Experience the Singapore Botanic Gardens

The Botanic Gardens are one of the Singapore’s largest green spaces, and are home to the world’s most extensive orchid garden as well. If you want some time to unwind, this may be one of the best things to do in Singapore for you. The vast Botanic Gardens are located to the west of Orchard Road and are full of well-tended lawns, tranquil lakes, themed gardens, and lush vegetation. A boardwalk will take you through a patch of ancient rainforest that is home to about 314 plant species, half of which are extremely rare. You can experience the occasional opera performances that take place in the gardens by the Symphony Lake, and there are also free themed tours of the Botanical Gardens that you can partake in (held on Saturdays).

Another one in the list of best things to do in Singapore, this is a branch of the super-popular Hollywood movie theme park. Some of the attractions that you can check out here include an all-singing, all-dancing Sesame Street Show in Hollywood, Dino-Soarin’ in The Lost World, and Puss In Boots’ Giant Journey in Far Far Away. If you crave for more thrills, you can head towards Sci-Fi City and hitch a ride in Battlestar Galactica, which is the world’s tallest duelling rollercoaster. Here, you also have the choice to ride the suspended CYLON or to ride the seated HUMAN! Sci-Fi city is also one to ‘Transformers the Ride’, which takes you on a 3D ride in an urban otherworld where you can watch the Transformers do battle and take part in high-speed chases. These are just some of the things to do at Universal Studios in Singapore.

S.E.A. is the largest aquarium in the world and has more than 100,000 sea creatures in 49 marine habitats. This aquarium is part of the Sentosa Island attractions which takes visitors on a journey through the diverse marine habitats in the world. Being home to several creatures, from sharks like hammerheads, sandbars, and silver tips; to reef fish of the Caribbean, fire shrimps, lobsters, and writhing eels; the aquarium is a delight for all. The aquarium is also home to some extraordinary exhibits like spider crabs, an enormous deep sea octopus, and even eerily lit tanks of jellyfish. The show-stopper however, has to be the vast Open Ocean Tank that brings you face to face with stingrays, barracuda, sharks, and other open water fish. If the ocean or its creatures interest you at all, this is one of the top things to do in Singapore that you simply cannot miss out on.

8. Ride the Singapore Flyer

The Singapore Flyer is one of the largest observation wheels in the world. A fun thing to do in Singapore, the wheel overlooks the Marina Bay, and is a quintessential part of the city’s skyline. A ride aboard the Singapore Flyer will take you high above the city, giving you 30 minutes for enjoying the amazing views of the Marina Bay, the skyscrapers, the historic buildings the river, and even some of the ships on South China Sea.

9. Walk through Chinatown

After a long day shopping or sightseeing, you should definitely head for a stroll through Chinatown. Here, you can gaze at exhibits which portray Chinatown’s colourful past, and can even check out some living quarters of opium addicts that have been replicated here. Chinatown is also home to the Sri Mariamman Temple, which is the oldest Hindu Temple in Singapore.

10. Take a Singapore River Cruise by Night

One of the most amazing things to do in Singapore at night is taking a river cruise. These are generally about 40-minute long cruises that run every 15-20 minutes from the Marina Bay to Clark Quay, home of the most vibrant night life in Singapore. There are several locations along the route where you can hop on or off the cruise.
