The Bandra Worli Sea Link is more than just a bridge!

2 mins. read
In this blog we will talk of the bay, that previously was Bombay, today is Mumbai. And we talk of something, that up until 2010 was just unimaginable. For those who live in Mumbai, and for those who have visited Mumbai, all of us know how crazy the traffic in our island city can get. And for commuters making their way from the Suburbs towards South Mumbai, this was even more annoying because the traffic would just keep crawling through Mahim Causeway towards Worli. But then in 2010, like a ray of sunshine in the darkest forest, the city of Mumbai was gifted the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
Built on the Arabian Sea, this 5.6 km long and eight-lane wide sea link, constructed at a cost of 1600 crores is today an architectural marvel and features as the 2nd best thing to see/experience while in Mumbai. It took architects from 11 countries and a full 10 years to complete this link. And how has it benefited us?
What would otherwise take anywhere between 40 and 60 minutes to travel from Worli towards the suburbs of Bandra and beyond, has now been brought down to a mere 10 minutes. Another fascinating thing about the sea link is that the Bandra–Worli Sea Link was the first infrastructure project in Mumbai to use seismic arresters. That means that it can withstand earthquakes measuring up to 7.0 on the Richter scale. And you know one of the fascinating things that we read in one of the news articles (InShorts App) was that "The length of steel wires used in the construction of the Bandra-Worli sea link, Mumbai, is equivalent to the earth's circumference." That’s crazy right! This was the story of our very own architectural marvel, the Bandra Worli Sea Link.
