The Bollywood movie ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Doobara’ set a whole new imagery for exploring Spain thereby increasing the number of Indian Bollywood fan tourists to follow the trails!

La Tomatina Festival Tour

The records were observed to rise up so drastically that the movie was also addressed by the Spanish tourism boards. With the true hype of the festival of La Tomatina portrayed in this movie, the attention of the curious explorers was grabbed on so strongly that La Tomatina became a part of so many bucket lists from that year! Origin of the festival:

The story of the origin of this festival is a corny story and funny as you may expect! La Tomatina will celebrate its special 73rd anniversary Fest this year! In around 1945, there was an impromptu battle of tomatoes in the crowd gathered in the People's Square due to some fight. After which the same people gathered to repeat the episode in the memory of it. It was banned for a few years and yet the tradition rose up as an interesting festive concept! A quirky comic episode that became a national tradition recognised around the globe! As funny as it may sound La Tomatina has gained popularity over the years and has successfully become one of the best known and international festivals in the world.

Fun facts of La Tomatina!

  • About the tomatoes?

Around 40 metric tonnes which are around 150,000 over-ripe tomatoes are splattered and used in this crazy festival of La Tomatina.

Tomatoes used for La Tomatina are no good for anything else. The tomatoes which are over-ripe and are about to rot are chosen for the festival.

Tomatina Festival

These tomatoes are grown and brought extremely cheaply from the exclusive region of Spain, Extremadura.

These tomatoes are of such low quality that they are known to be inedible.

  • About the people who attend?

According to the records, around 40,000 people attended the festival in the tiny town of Valencia in Buñol.

90% of the crowd celebrating the La Tomatina festival is observed to be foreigners, especially travelling for the festival!

  • About the benefits?

Tomatoes are known to be natural disinfectants. Thereby, after La Tomatina, your skin that got drenched in the puree of tomatoes will be cleansed with simply no traces of impurities.

The cleanliness of the town is also taken care of! Fire-fighters extinguish the fire of craze and cleanse the town all over again!
