About Meghalaya Tourism

Meghalaya is a picturesque state in Northeast India. It is often referred to as the "Abode of Clouds,” due to its misty hills, lush greenery, and abundant rainfall. Meghalaya tourism is characterized by its dense rainforests, mysterious caves, breathtaking waterfalls, and serene hill stations. This state is bordered by Assam to the north and Bangladesh to the south and is enriched by the traditions of its indigenous Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia tribes.

Meghalaya is one of the seven sister states of India located in the northeastern part of the country. It is widely famed for its biodiversity, vibrant culture, and natural wonders. Meghalaya tourism in India has become exponentially popular over the decades. There is no dearth of places to visit and things to see in Meghalaya, starting from the world-famous living root bridges of Cherrapunjee to the crystal-clear Umngot River in Dawki. With Veena World, you can also enjoy a tour of Shillong, which is also known as the "Scotland of the East,”, and is famous for its scenic beauty and pleasant climate.

Meghalaya state tourism encourages people from near and far to plan a trip to this destination in order to check out Elephant Falls, Thadlaskein Lake, Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai caves and more. You may even get to try out boating in the Dawki River.

Best Time to Visit Meghalaya

The perfect time to plan a trip to Meghalaya is from October to April. The weather stays pleasant here during this time, with clear skies and mild temperatures that hardly go beyond 30°C. Hence, this would be the perfect time to go for sightseeing sprees, as well to try out adventure tourism in Meghalaya. You are likely to witness lush greenery and vibrant landscapes in the months of October to November here, right after the monsoon season. On the other hand, winter months of December to February provide the perfect cool, and comfortable weather to engage in outdoor activities. You should however be prepared for occasional rainfall even during the dry season, as the weather in Meghalaya can often be unpredictable. It is often considered to be among the wettest regions in the country. Therefore, Meghalaya tourism should be avoided during peak monsoons.

Experience The Best Of Meghalaya

Meghalaya is quite a fascinating state. It boasts of a plethora of memorable experiences that you are likely to cherish throughout your life. The itinerary of your Meghalaya tourism package must include the following:

Elephant Falls:

Named after an Elephant-like stone at its foot, the Elephant Falls are among the star attractions of Shillong tourism in Meghalaya. The waterfall is formed by a mountain stream flowing down several levels through a forested hillside. Railed pathways start at the top of the falls and lead to the bottom, allowing you to enjoy a close-up view of the breathtaking cascade. You can feel the refreshing spray of the water and hear its powerful roar as it rushes down. At the base, there is a calm pool where you can step into the clear, shallow water and take a memorable photo with the impressive waterfall as your backdrop.

Double-Decker Living Root Bridge:

Cherrapunjee tourism in Meghalaya is widely famous for its Double-Decker Living Root Bridge. This one-of-a-kind bridge has recently been added to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Made of intertwined roots, these bridges have been built for centuries by the indigenous people of the land and are used by them to cross the overflowing rivers in the monsoon.

Krang Suri Waterfalls:

When talking about Meghalaya tourism, we cannot forget the Krang Suri Waterfalls. The water here is crystal clear and has a blue-green hue that changes with the sunlight. Krang Suri Waterfalls are known for their stunning rainbow effects, which take place as the sun's rays hit the water droplets and create a colourful spectrum.
