Rumi Darwaza

Standing tall at an impressive height of 60ft, the Rumi Darwaza once served as the entrance to Old Lucknow City. It is often referred to as the Turkish Gate due to its resemblance to Turkey’s Bab-i-Humayun. Rumi Darwaza is an iconic symbol of the rich and glorious past of Luckow. It features the Awadhi style of architecture and is among the key inclusions of the Lucknow city tour within UP tourism. The Rumi Darwaza has two facades. The eastern facade has a huge archway and is flanked by smaller arches on the side. These arches have intricate designs and carvings. You can find a pair of fish-shaped structures on the top of the eastern façade, which were the symbols of the Nawab dynasty.

Ambedkar Memorial Park

This is a sprawling complex honouring the life and legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The park is adorned with statues, stonework and monuments. At the heart of the Ambedkar Memorial Park, you will find the Ambedkar Stupa. This stupa is constructed in the shape of a flower with four petals in bloom and comprises several statues depicting the biography of Ambedkar through diverse stages of his professional and personal life. The beautifully manicured gardens of the Ambedkar Memorial Park are perfect for spending some time in peace and quiet. 

Chota Imambara

When thinking about places near Lucknow for tourism, Chota Imambara is among the first names that come to one’s mind. It is often referred to as Husainabad Imambara or Palace of Lights, and beautifully displays the history and culture of Lucknow. Chota Imambara is a magnificent structure that features baroque carvings and exquisite calligraphy and presents an impeccable amalgamation of the elements of Persian and Indo-Islamic styles of architecture. The interiors of the Chota Imambara are decorated with delicate Arabic glasswork. Inside the structure, you will find gilt-edged mirrors, colourful stuccos and exquisite chandeliers.

Bara Imambara

The Bara Imambara is among the major highlights of Lucknow city tour and UP tourism, especially due to the Bhul Bhulaiya or labyrinth located on the upper floor of the monument. This maze comprises of a network of narrow, winding corridors as well as interconnected passageways that are spread across three floors. The Bara Imambara is among the largest vaulted structures on the planet without any external support from pillars or beams. 

British Residency

The British Residency of Lucknow is an important historical landmark that served as the residence for the British Resident General. It was built in the 18th century and is an excellent example of colonial architecture. The British Residency complex includes ruins of buildings telling the story of the siege that showcases bullet-marked walls. You can also find a museum here that displays artefacts and pictorial depictions related to the uprising.
