Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, has a long and varied history that dates back to the 12th century. Over the centuries, this city has been ruled by several empires, including the Persians, the Russians, and the Ottomans. So, if you are a history enthusiast, there can be no better place for you than this.

With an impressive number of futuristic skyscrapers set against ancient architectural marvels, this city offers a perfect amalgamation of old and new. Best Time to Visit Baku

The best time to plan a trip to Baku is from September to November. With average temperatures ranging from 12°C to 26°C, the weather remains suitable for sightseeing and other outdoor activities. This city is known for having a semi-arid climate, so it is best to avoid going there in the summer season (May-July). In the winter months (December-February), the average temperature can drop to 5–6 °C, making the area extremely cold. However, you can still plan a trip as the tourist crowd starts thinning around this time.

Must-Visit Places in Baku

Here is a list of major tourist attractions that you should definitely include in your itinerary while booking a Baku tour package:

Baku Eye

Also known as the Devil’s Wheel, the Baku Eye is the largest Ferris wheel in Baku. Located on Baku Boulevard in the Seaside National Park, overlooking the Caspian Sea, it offers amazing panoramic views of the city. If you want to admire the stunning Baku skyline and its coastal surroundings in the most thrilling way, this is just the right place to include in your itinerary.

Flame Towers

Flame Towers is a fascinating skyscraper trio in Baku, with the tallest one being 182 metres in height. The overall shape of these towers is similar to flames and symbolises the element of fire, which is the reason behind their name. Located on a hill overlooking the Caspian Sea, this iconic building has completely transformed the city’s skyline. Consisting of 33 floors, Flame Towers is a true architectural marvel that is counted among Baku’s major tourist attractions.

National Flag Square

National Flag Square is a large city square that spreads over an area of 60 hectares. It is also known to have the world’s second-tallest flagpole, with a height of 162 metres. Here, you can see a large national flag of Azerbaijan that measures 70 metres in length and 35 metres in width. Due to its Guinness World Record, this flag square has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Baku. Here, you can also visit the Museum of the State Flag. The building is famous for its distinctive design, which resembles the shape of an eight-pointed star. In this museum, you can find a large collection of orders, medals, postage stamps, flags, etc. on display.

Little Venice

Consisting of artificial waterways, Little Venice is one of the most sought-after tourist attractions in Baku. This place is known for being home to a few canals, which are interspersed with small islands connected by stone bridges. Here, you can indulge in several activities, such as taking a gondola ride. This place does not guarantee an authentic Venice-like experience, but it is definitely a great idea to spend your day.

Fountain Square

Fountain Square, as the name suggests, is a popular public square with dozens of beautiful fountains. Located in downtown Baku, this is now considered one of the major tourist attractions in the city. However, this square used to serve as a parapet in early times. Surrounded by wide, paved streets and a number of restaurants, cafes, etc., this is a great place to spend your day. You can either sit somewhere and enjoy authentic Azerbaijani food or take a stroll around the fountains.

Nizami Street

Named after the famous 12th-century Persian romantic epic poet Nizami Ganjavi, this is one of the most famous shopping streets in Baku. Ranging from high-end designer clothing brands to the most trending shoe stores, and jewellery shops to souvenir stalls; Nizami Street is home to hundreds of different outlets. Given the number of options available here, it is a real paradise for every shopaholic. In addition to this, you will also come across some of the charming old buildings as well as heritage monuments on this street. In short, a trip to Baku is actually incomplete without visiting this popular street.
